TikTok Grants Users Control to Limit AI-Generated Videos in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that enables them to cut down on the amount of artificial intelligence-produced media appearing in their timelines. This initiative comes as the service revealed that it now features over 1 thousand million AI-generated clips.

Testing and Rollout

The update is undergoing trials over the coming weeks before a widespread launch. This development aligns with a rise in AI content, driven by recent AI video creators.

AI Proliferation Online

It has been noted that approximately one in 10 of the quickest rising video streams on another major platform primarily display content made by AI. A significant portion of this material is deemed low-quality AI content, a phrase for substandard, mass-produced content that is often nonsensical or dreamlike.

Our research shows that many people like content created using AI tools, ranging from digital art to informative clips, and we intend to offer the community the option to adjust the amount of that, based on their own likes,” said a platform representative.

Scale of AI Content

The platform announced that there are presently 1.3 billion videos on its app labeled as AI-generated. Collectively, over 100 million media items are uploaded to the platform every day, making AI-generated material a minor percentage of its total content library.

User Control Features

Viewers will be capable of decrease or raise the volume of AI content they watch by using the “manage topic” setting in the platform and choosing the AI content topic. Further subjects that can already be controlled under the filter include current affairs, fashion, beauty, and choreography.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its policies oblige content makers to tag lifelike AI-generated content, and it prohibits malicious fake videos of well-known individuals or crisis events. Any authentic-looking AI-generated clip that is without a tag can be deleted under its user guidelines.

Furthermore, the app will now attach an “AI-made” watermark to content produced via its proprietary AI systems, or identified by an collaborative effort for spotting content made by AI. This measure is designed to stop users from attempting to circumvent the tagging system.

Educational Initiatives

The company is also launching a $2 million educational fund for specialists and organizations to develop informative material about using AI responsibly. This initiative will assist non-profit groups focused on teaching computer science.

Moderation Strategy

TikTok has defended its content review process, during discussion over proposals to cut jobs for a large number of content moderators in the United Kingdom. It is set to reduce hundreds of positions in its trust and safety division in the UK capital, with trade unions and internet security professionals expressing worry that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A senior executive stated that staff-based oversight would continue to be important, but automated tools can shield workers by removing the most harmful content before it has to be seen by people. TikTok stated a significant reduction in explicit and harmful content reviewed by content reviewers over the past year due to the use of its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to combine people and machines to ensure user safety,” she said. “We’ll have humans as involved in the system, but we also think it’s very important to minimize viewing of dangerous material as swiftly, which is where a significant AI assistance is making a difference process content quickly.”
