Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
